
Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) School of Foreign Languages organized an orientation program for students who will study in the preparatory class during the 2025–2026 academic year. The program, held in the YDYO Conference Hall, was attended by Director Prof. Dr. Emrah Ekmekçi, Deputy Directors Lecturer Havvanur Bozdoğan and Lecturer Salih Kılıç, Unit Coordinators Lecturer Mustafa Bozdoğan, Lecturer Feyhan Patan, Lecturer Seçkin Can, Lecturer Neslihan Acar, Lecturer Esra Atmaca, YDYO Secretary Meryem Erişgin, student affairs staff, and teaching staff from the English, German, and French departments. In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Ekmekçi emphasized that the preparatory year is not only a language learning process but also a great opportunity for students to adapt to academic life and university culture. Stating that knowing a foreign language is “not a privilege but a necessity” today, Ekmekçi recommended learning strategies to students such as regular repetition, using words in daily life, not being afraid to make mistakes, acquiring listening and watching habits, and using technology efficiently. During the orientation process, students were given detailed information about the academic calendar of the preparatory class, course content, the assessment system, exams, and attendance rules.
